A New 'TRUE TO ME’ - My Aunt Cornie was born in 1895, attended East Tennessee Teacher’s College (now ETSU), became a teacher, and didn’t marry until she was 36 years old, when she moved to Oregon during the Great Depression. She left this bookcase and its books at my grandparents’ home. When an uncle who lived in the house died, his widow called me to offer it to me. The relationship with Aunt Cornie and her bookcase have found their way into my book a few times. The titles speak to her intellect.
While writing about my high school “jobs,” I found the check that bought this watch in 1965, from profits of my vending machine business. I wore it until about 1985 and displayed it in my office until 2020. The check disproves beliefs I held for 58 years. Maybe confessing this stuff in a book cleanses my soul. “A New ‘True to Me’” is in the hands of an editor. I wonder where it will take me next.

Ella Grace Swinger remined me of the Fearless Girl statue that was first installed at the northern tip of Bowling Green on Broadway, facing down the Charging Bull statue. Following complaints from that statue's sculptor, Arturo Di Modica, it was removed in November 2018 and relocated to its current location the following month. A plaque with footprints was placed on the original site of Fearless Girl. Fearless Girl is a bronze sculpture by Kristen Visbal, on Broad Street across from the New York Stock Exchange Building in the Financial District of Manhattan in New York City. The statue was installed on March 7, 2017, in anticipation of International Women's Day the following day. It depicts a 4-foot high (1.2 m) girl promoting female empowerment.
